Tharros
This ancient town lies near Oristano and is the main archaeological town preserved on Sardinia. Its excavation has lasted for more than a century and is not yet finished. Phoenician and Punic buildings have been unearthed on the hill of Su Muru Mannu where the Phoenician sacrificial place was located. From the Roman period there are thermal baths, temples, an aqueduct, and a perfectly kept main water tank. There is a necropolis to the south of the site.
Roman Thermal Baths in Forum Traiani
Originally made while the Roman Empire had control over Sardinia, the warm water at the thermal baths used to come from both nature and artificial sources. The ruins of the forum were discovered beside the thermal baths and the amphitheatre in Fordongianus.
The Bue Marino Grotto
This cave is located off Cala Gonone and can only be reached by boat. The cave may have been a shrine at one time, as signs of ancient worship have been found here.
The Grotto of Ispinigoli
This grotto has some huge stalagmites, and there is an opening that has been named the "Cavern of the Virgins" because it once served as a shrine where people worshipped their deities. This grotto has the tallest stalagmite in Europe.
Su Gorropu Gorge
Opening up between Mount Oddeu and the Cuccuttos peak, this gorge was ceated by the eroding waters of the River Flumineddu. A guide can lead visitors around the bottom, where ponds, lakes, large rocks, and rare species of birds can be found. The gorge looks like a canyon, reaching heights of over 500m at some points.
The trenino verde
This old steam train has different itineraries, ranging from 46 to 159 km length trips, and helps visitors discover some of the most captivating parts of Sardinia.
